Altitude Comparison

The following three images are extracts from three photographs taken on the same day just a few minutes apart over Contra Costa County, California on July 31, 2008. Click on the snippets for the full-size images (warning: each is 5-10MB).

The selected pool (1) is seen in all three views, and would not normally be targeted as it is clean and the water is transparent. For every 1,000 feet we descend, there is only a marginal increase in the resolution and a corresponding increase in the flight time and image processing time.

At 5,000 Feet AGL - Master Image is 3840 by 2592, Pixel size is 8.2", Snippet size is 820 by 547 feet. This is our standard altitude for Pool Surveys, resulting in a net of 3.66 photographs per square mile after allowance for overlap.

4,000 Feet AGL - Master Image is 3142 by 2121 feet, Pixel size is 6.7" Snippet size is 671 by 448 feet. This results in a net of 5.47 photographs per square mile after allowance for overlap. Resolution improves by 18%, survey cost increases to 149% of our standard survey.

3,000 Feet AGL - Master Image is 2443 by 1649 feet, Pixel size is 5.2" Snippet size is 522 by 348 feet. This results in a net of 9.04 photographs per square mile after allowance for overlap. Resolution improves by 37%, survey cost increases to 246% of our standard survey.
